Things in Sudan continue to grow more intense in violence, and each day is bringing the country closer to civil war. We as Christians should feel a burning desire to pray for this nation, as well as other areas of conflict, where children are being killed and orphaned, where food supplies are being extorted and natural resources are becoming a reason for fighting, not for coming together.
The Big Picture today features pictures from the conflict in Sudan. You can view them Here. Warning: Some are difficult to look at.
A great resource to use in your prayer time is a book and Website titled “Operation World“. The amount of information it provides on all the countries of the world is tremendous. At the end of this post, I will provide a link to Amazon where you can purchase a copy of the book. Or sign up online to receive email notifications about countries to pray for.
Here are some facts about Sudan that I gleaned from the book:
- Africa’s largest country.
- 61.38 Muslim
- 26.11 Christian
- Conflict in Darfur alone has caused the deaths of 300,000 people and displacement of 2.5 million people
- Slavery persists in Sudan still today
This is just a small sample of the 7 pages of information that “Operation World” has on Sudan.
Be proactive. Don’t turn a blind eye. Do something. Pray first and foremost. Educate yourself on the situation. Purchase “Operation World” to help you learn more about how you can pray. Visit the Operation World Website. Set your life aside and go on a mission trip to one of the Sudanese refugee camps. Remember, we have a responsibility to go unto all nations and make disciples.
