This conference manuscript by Tony Reinke, given at the 2013 Desiring God Conference for Pastors, centers of the Pastor and His Reading–the discipline of reading, the Biblical basis for reading, the importance of literature, and the importance of encouraging their congregation to stretch themselves in the practice of reading edifying material.
While aimed at pastor’s, I found it to be hugely motivating and encouraging to me even though I am not currently in formal ministry. Particularly his suggestions toward the end of the document are practical. I can easily see the potential impact they could have on individuals and the corporate church. I even found some suggestions that I hope to put into practice in my own life and on this blog.

****UPDATE: A reader commented that the link above was not working. I was able to find the article in it’s entirety at DesiringGod.org. You can read the article HERE. Also, the author of this article has a book out titled Lit! that looks intriguing. I’ve not read it yet, but I have it on both my Amazon and my GoodReads Wish List. You can purchase the book at Amazon.
