A Struggle of a Day
I didn’t get much sleep last night. Awakened, I just couldn’t seem to shake it to get back to sleep. An “ughness” permeating my soul throughout my morning routine. But I was excited, honored and privileged to be singing Blessed Redeemer this morning, and that helped keep me motivated to push through, doing the things I know to do.
As we sang “Hosanna” this morning, I was captivated by wondering what, exactly, is Hosanna? John Piper was quoted in a tweet this morning saying “Hosanna! means, ‘Hooray for salvation! It’s coming! It’s here! Salvation! Salvation!”
Of course I wouldn’t be me without employing the help of my dictionary, which gives us this definition:

How interesting that part of the definition of Hosanna is an appeal to God for deliverance. The word Hosanna needs to be in our vocabulary when worshiping God, when studying and praying—particularly if it is used both in praise and in supplication for deliverance. Hosanna! Hosanna to the King!
Hosanna is mentioned 6 times in the Bible, all having to do with Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem and the crowd’s response. If you’ve not read my post about Thoughts on Palm Sunday, you might find it interesting. They clearly expected Jesus to ascend in power.
Tonight I go to sleep with thoughts of Hosanna on my mind—-Lift up your head, salvation is coming, and is here. I whisper the word Hosanna tonight both as a plea for deliverance and a praise and worship of my King Jesus.
Tonight I pray for uninterrupted sleep, for peace. There is a very long week ahead that honestly I dread. I’m so tired. However I will keep pushing forward.
