Friday Findings
I’m a curious soul – with a wide range of nerdy and geeky interests, ranging from space exploration to theological concepts. I often find interesting items when stumbling about on the internet – and on Friday’s I like to share my findings with you!
Life Goals – National Parks
One of my goals is to visit every United States National Park. Last year, we were able to visit several parks and National Historic Sites – Zion, Bryce, Glenn Canyon, Montezuma Castle, Harriet Tubman’s home, the Erie Canal museum, White Sands National Park – and several others. It was a great year, and I was able to add several nerdy Cancellation Stamps to my Passport to Your National Parks book…but in reality, we only scratched the surface.
That’s why I loved this article about a couple who went on the ultimate journey, and visited all 59 parks, in seven months – wow! Reading their observations, it sounds like it was so many things – thrilling, exhausting, fascinating, long, overwhelming, and even underwhelming at times. But wow – what an adventure they had! I hope we can do the same, or something similar, some day! You can read about their trip here: Every U.S. National Park
Least Visited National Parks
Sticking with the theme of National Parks for a bit – here’s a list of the Ten Least Visited Places in the National Parks System. I’d love to at least visit all of the Alaska sites listed here: National Parks Conservation Association
Mr. Rogers & C.S. Lewis
We so enjoyed the movie “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood”, starring Tom Hanks as Mr. Rogers; so when I saw that Dr. Russell Moore had posted a podcast video about what we can learn from C.S. Lewis and Fred Rogers, I was intrigued. I enjoyed Dr. Moore’s take on what Lewis and Rogers had in common; and I think you will as well.
The Best Way to Celebrate Turning 104
When Betty X. Davis asked how she wanted to celebrate her 104th birthday, she didn’t want a cake or presents. Instead, she wanted 104 children’s books to donate to a local elementary school. Read her story here: Happy 104th Birthday, Betty
Best Socks Ever
If you know me, you know I have a collection of crazy socks. I started the collection well before it became trendy in recent years – and it all began out of rebellion (shocking, right?!?). One year, at a Christmas Music dress rehearsal at our church, I wore the required “all-black” outfit, but because I was lazy and prefer to be shoe-less, I put on some Christmas socks and didn’t wear my dress shoes. No big deal, right? Apparently it was, though, because an older lady in our choir chewed me out, up and down, for not taking Christmas Dress Rehearsal seriously and for being out of uniform.
I’m a terrible person; so, of course, that just egged me on. Every opportunity I had, after that point, I wore the craziest socks I could find – mismatched, ugly, obnoxious, funny – to every rehearsal. Thus was born my sock collection.
But even I don’t have socks as cool as this 1,700 year old sock from Ancient Egypt – check it out here: Way Cooler Than My Socks
