Friday Findings
I’m a curious soul – with a wide range of nerdy and geeky interests, ranging from space exploration to theological concepts. I often find interesting items when stumbling about on the internet – and on Friday’s I like to share my findings with you!
Why Read Flannery O’ Connor?
I have a book of Flannery O’ Connor’s short stories. I turn to it from time to time, when I am just frustrated with the world at large. O’ Connor has a way of writing about life, with a little bit of sting to it that recognizes the ability in each of us to be very complicated creations. Here’s a short, animated video about some of Flannery’s works, and why you should read them:
Beware the (Polar) Bear
Some good friends and coworkers of ours are considering an anniversary trip to far North Canada later this year, to see Polar Bears. So, when I stumbled across this article, it made me chuckle a bit – my friends have options! They could check out the bears in Russia! But, seriously – I think I’ve read somewhere that polar bears can be fierce. I don’t think I’d like to wake up in the middle of the night and find one rummaging around my house: Polar Bear Invasion
Photography of the Black Leopard
While we are on the subject of wildlife…I thoroughly enjoyed these stunning photos of African Black Leopards. Apparently very few photographers have captured pictures of these leopards, and those who have succeeded, only did so from afar. Photographer Will Burrard-Lucas researched where to place his cameras, and recently came up with some of the first, close-angle shots of the animal in Africa: Black Leopard in Kenya
Airport Wars
Since I travel a fair amount for both work and fun, I enjoyed the (semi) good-natured ribbing between Chicago O’Hare Airport and Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson, as they both play “King of the Mountain” with the title “Busiest Airport in the United States”. I often fly through Atlanta (hello, Delta Hub); but have been through Chicago a time or two. Neither are my preference. I like Detroit Metro and Minneapolis’s Airport (though I can’t remember the name of it) – and my very own Newport News Airport, ’cause I can be dropped off at the curb, checked in, and to my gate in between 15-20 minutes. Max. Fly the Friendly and Busy Skies
Hope in Dark Times
I was honored and grateful to be able to share my own story of how my church was a shelter of grace, mercy and hope to my children and I, during some of our very darkest days. I’m also grateful for the opportunity to share that story with you, dear readers: Hope in the Wake of Sexual Abuse
