I often file away interesting tidbits that I come across while meandering (um, wasting time) on the internet. However, life has been incredibly busy as of late, so I’ve not had a chance to post in quite a while. It’s good to be back – Here are a few things I’ve come across lately, that I’ve found interesting or helpful.
What’s on the Other Side of the Ocean?
I was a strange little kid. I used to stand in my backyard and imagine that someone on the exact opposite world was standing at the same exact spot – if that makes any sense. I liked to think that we had both been playing, but then had both been pulled to that same spot, connected somehow through the ground. (At that point, I also thought the world was smaller – and that there was just dirt – not rock and magma and all that other earthy-inside stuff.
So, I really liked this article and graphic from Mental Floss, showing what’s on the other side of the ocean from any location. Ok – so maybe it doesn’t necessarily translate to the exact opposite of where any very specific coordinates might be – but, it’s a heck of a lot closer than guessing. Common Mythconceptions
Knowledge is Beautiful is one of my favorite sites – I love how they gather data into very visually appealing and fascinating graphics. Here’s one that I don’t think I’ve shared before – a collection of common myths that I’m sure you will recognize..if not all of them, then definitely some of them. The Bubble Size for each concept correlates to how virulent the idea is. Be sure to click around, and then check out their data source link toward the bottom of the page – I always find that as fascinating as the actual graphics themselves: Is it Truth or Myth?
The View From Space
Seems I can’t pull together Friday Findings, without often adding in a Space Piece. Check out this astonishingly beautiful and fascinating video by Guillaume JUIN, over at Vimeo – compiled from pictures taken from space, looking down on earth:

Face-to-Face Meetings
At my work, we are preparing for our annual face-to-face company gathering, out in LA. Many of us work remotely, so our in-person interactions are fairly infrequent throughout the year. We have found great benefit, in gathering once a year to work together in one room.
As we’ve worked together to put the upcoming meeting together, I’ve been giving a lot of thought to what is gained from that face-to-face encounter. I’m a closet introvert by nature, so I much prefer the technological advances that we “enjoy” today, allowing us to not have to socially interact as much in-person. But, even so, I know that there are things we “miss out” on, when that eye-to-eye and in-person, live communication is removed. I think this article does a good job of capturing some of the many benefits of meeting together in real-time, from a pastoral point-of-view: Face-to-Face
