I realized today, at the sad passing of Margaret Thatcher, that other than basic history I know very little about this iconic woman who did so much for all of Europe, and whose partnership with President Reagan forged a powerful duo that influenced the entire world.
So, being who I am, I instantly went to Amazon to choose a book to read about her life. I settled on “There is No Alternative: Why Margaret Thatcher Matters” by Claire Berlinski. There’s another book that looks really good that is slated to be released this fall. You can read about it here.
I thought that, while waiting for my book to arrive (thank you Amazon Prime), I’d check out some of her famous quotes. Here are my favorite:
- “You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it.” Wow–I know this is so true in my own life, an I imagine you can think of times when it has been true in your’s as well.
- “I love argument, I love debate. I don’t expect anyone just to sit there and agree with me, that’s not their job.”–hmm, I’m liking her personality more and more. I, too, love a good debate.
- “I am extraordinarily patient, provided I get my own way in the end.” This one just made me smile.

Thank you, Margaret Thatcher, for being a leader. A fearless one. Thank you for leading during a time that uncompromising leadership was needed. You will be missed, Iron Lady.
