I love stumbling upon songs that I remember listening to growing up….recently it seems that I’ve had a spate of them cross my path. I thought it would be fun to post some of them here:
1. True Grit: Watched parts of this movie (the original!) on TV this afternoon. Was completely surprised by the memories that hearing the song True Grit stirred up. I remember that this song was on one of my few vinyl records. Love John Wayne.

2. Farther Along: Another great song that I hadn’t heard in a very long time. We recently watched the movie “Winter’s Bone” and there it was–at the end of the movie. There are several great versions in YouTube of this song, but I went with my all-time favorite singer–Johnny Cash. (While there, check out the Peasall sister’s version–beautiful)
3. O Happy Day: A youth group from Red Bank Baptist church visited my hometown in Iowa when I was a young girl. I remember their music minister singing this as the youth backed him up–have never, ever forgotten it. I recently was given the gift of reconnecting with someone from Red Bank that was on that trip–an amazing experience.
Many great options for this song–remember Sister Act???—but I settled on using a video of the songwriter, Edwin Hawkins, singing this great song; Enjoy!
